How do I find my GPRN Number?

What is GPRN?

Before we go about searching for our GPRN, it’s important to know what it is and why it is important, too.

A Gas Point Reference Number (or GPRN) is a unique 7 digit number that is linked to your gas connection and meter. It is used to identify your address that is supplied with gas, and therefore is attached to your home and meter, not you or your supplier, and never changes. That means that if you switch gas suppliers, you’ll still have the same GPRN.

Why is the GPRN number important?

The Gas Point Reference Number (GPRN) is the number that Gas Networks Ireland and your supplier use to locate where your home is connected to the network. Therefore it is needed if you need to report any issues to Gas Networks Ireland.

You will also require the GPRN if you wish to change supplier or get a gas connection to a new property.

What’s the difference between an GPRN number and a MPRN number?

An MPRN number indicates the location of your home’s connection to the electricity network, and a GPRN (Gas Point Reference Number) shows where your home is connected to the gas network. If you are switching a Dual Fuel deal you will need both the MPRN and GPRN numbers.

How to find the GPRN

The GPRN will be clearly displayed on the first page of your gas bill or statement. If you can’t find a previous bill or have recently moved and don’t have access to any bills, there are other ways to find out your GPRN number.

For rental properties, try contacting the landlord for information. For purchased properties, contacting the previous inhabitants can be useful, and if that property is a new build and part of an estate, your builder should have the number.

If you still have trouble finding the GPRN number you can contact Gas Networks Ireland on 1850 200 694.

Switching to a better energy deal

If you are comparing deals and wish to switch gas suppliers then you will need the GPRN number for the property. It’s a good idea to make a note of the GPRN, and MPRN for electricity, so they are at hand when switching to a better deal.
